I am interested in finding out about Licorice in some of the teas. I heard that it is not good for people with heart conditions. I was wondering if you had any insight about this.

Licorice root has a long history of use and has been known to have amazing health benefits as it may help ease upper respiratory conditions and has anticancer properties, but the effects of licorice on potassium and blood pressure are of particular concern for people at risk if consumed in large amounts over an extended period of time. This is due to the fact that licorice in high doses can lower potassium levels. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that if you’re over 40 and eat more than two ounces of licorice daily (for two weeks or more), you can run into health problems. We always suggest to never take licorice (or any herb) as a single herb but instead in an herbal formula or tea since they are designed with limited amounts of licorice and other herbs to give you a much more balanced and safer formula. There is never a need to overdue any single herb because of its health benefits. Herbs are food and it is best to keep it balanced, just like a balanced meal. We wouldn't want to consume 5 lbs of broccoli daily just because it is good for you. The same should go with herbs. That being said, I would recommend people having trouble regulating their blood pressure, especially if on medication, avoid any formulas with licorice to be completely safe.
